Maria Neckam's new album now on Blue Music Group

Austrian-New Yorker vocalist and songwriter Maria Neckam new release, 'Crossing and Blending', is now available on Blue Music Group. This remarkable 63-minute entirety features edgy original melodies by Neckam and one track by the pianist on the album, Franz von Chossy.

Off Beat Magazine has reviewed 'Crossing and Blending' as an ambitious release "that ranges through the breadth of her stylistic tropes and suggests that she's going to be a special voice', and Jazz.com goes even further by stating that "she writes quirky, provoking, poetic lyrics. Some of her compositions have a decided Weill-Brechtian flavor, as if written for a 21st-century Threepenny Opera. The recording is vibrant, the playing strong and intuitively supportive." Maria Neckam lived and studied in Vienna and Amsterdam before moving to New York to study at the Manhattan School of Music's Jazz program. Guided by Peter Eldridge among others, she has since made her way into the jazz scene of Brooklynites centered around 55 Bar, located at Sheridan Square in Greenwich Village. Her current band features drummer Colin Stranahan, bassist Thomas Morgan, pianist Glenn Zaleski, and saxophonists Samir Zarif and Lars Dietrich, with often appearing guest performers such as underground sax icon David Binney.

'Crossing and Blending' is Maria Neckam's second album on Blue Music Group. In the spring 2009 she released the provoking avant-garde duo album, 'Das Wörterbuch' with pianist Mika Pohjola.
