FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 2005
YOUNG GIRL CONQUERS STRIFE AFTER DEBILITATING AUTO ACCIDENT
WITH STUNNING MUSICAL DEBUT
WILL PERFORM AT THE CUTTING ROOM AUGUST 8th 2005 at 9PM.
Melody Gardot is not your typical singer/songwriter. Her ambitions were cut short in Nov. 2003 when struck by a SUV while riding her bicycle home in Philadelphia PA. The accident caused numerous injuries leaving the then 19-year-old permanently disabled. Yet she pushes past her limitations only to arrive in New York City on August 8th 2005 for a performance at the Cutting Room.
Her strength and determination to push beyond her pain and disability in an effort to make music has been remarkable. In early summer 2005 Melody Gardot released an EP titled "Some Lessons." It was recorded bedside while recovering from her accident. Much of the music served as therapy for the young songstress allowing her the ability to channel her pain and hardship into something positive.
So what is the music like? Not as grim as you may think. Undoubtedly in the same vein as Norah Jones, in that it is blues/jazz based, Gardot puts her own spin on things with a deeper, richer voice and way more soul. Accompanied by a trio behind her, the young songstress has chosen not to fold under the pressure of her newfound disability. Instead, she is performing regularly and making her way like a steady train across the East Coast. Next stop: New York City.
