Saxophonists James Carter and Daniel Bennett in Concert

This could very well be one of the most interesting double bill concerts of 2009. Saxophonist James Carter brings his organ trio to the Cambridge YMCA Theatre (820 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA) on May 16 (8pm). Also on the bill is "Folk-Jazz" saxophonist Daniel Bennett. The concert is part of the ongoing Bennett Alliance Concert Series. Visit www.bennettalliance.com for discount advance tickets.

Saxophonist James Carter (www.jamescarterlive.com) has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Sonny Rollins, Aretha Franklin, the late Julius Hemphill, Ronald Shannon Jackson, the Charles Mingus Big Band, soprano Kathleen Battle, David Murray, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Ginger Baker, and many others. He appeared in the 1994 PBS telecast of "Live At Lincoln Center" and portrayed saxophonist Ben Webster in Robert Altman's 1996 film, "Kansas City." James Carter recently topped Downbeat's annual Critics Poll in the Baritone Saxophone category for the third year in a row.

Saxophonist Daniel Bennett (www.danielbennett.net) is most known for his trance- inducing musical mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. Bennett has traveled the country, performing at venues like Lincoln Center, Merrill Auditorium, Eastman Theatre, George Eastman House, Jordan Hall, Hale Auditorium, Open Fest, Six Flags Darien Lake, and the Rochester Lilac Festival. The Daniel Bennett Group has shared concert stages with Bill Frisell, the Charlie Hunter Trio, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), David Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos), Denison Witmer, and LA-based synthpop group Joy Electric. In January of 2008, the Daniel Bennett Group released the epic full length album, The Legend of Bear Thompson on the Bennett Alliance label.
