A native of Bologna, the charming and highly cultural university town in northern Italy, Marco Pignataro began his musical studies at the ýBruno Madernaý Conservatory of Music. At this fine classical institution, Marco majored in classical saxophone under the prestigious guidance of Maestro Gilberto Monetti, a celebrated recording classical saxophonist (Saxophone Journal, Vo.l 18, No.5). Just soon after Marcoýs third year of study, Maestro Monetti invited the young saxophonist to be the new sax baritone player of his long-standing recording classical quartet, the ýNuovo Quartetto dýAnceý, and to give recitals in concert halls and music festivals all around Italy.
For the last two years, Marco has been a contributing writer for the influential American magazine Jazz Improv. As a reviewer and columnist, Marco has also conducted interviews with artists such as Branford Marsalis, Gary Campbell, Jerry Bergonzi, David Sýnchez and Miguel Zenýn. He also started performing with a Cuban singer Yvonne Sanchez in her project called "Brazilian Groove." In 2005 Ondrej left both bands of Roman Pokorny and started his own band called "ORGANIC quartet." Now he also works with a young and talented blues guitar player, Luke Martin. These days, Ondrej also performs with the following bands: Christian Rover Trio, Yvonne Sanchez Brazilian Groove, Rene Trossman band, Private Earthquake and Ondøej Štveráèek trio. Jan Ponsford is hailed as one of the UK’s best and more original vocalists whose sensibilities stretch further than the norm, effortlessly covering jazz, south American and eastern European influences — a blend now considered de rigueur for jazz vocalists, with Ponsford being credited as an originator of the style.
Ponsford performs and records with some of the world’s finest musicians, and features alongside the Greats in the book ‘Singing Jazz’. She also has her own section in the Virgin Encyclopaedia of Jazz, and is in the Penguin Who’s Who of Jazz. - (Style: Jazz Vocals)
