Courtney Pine has done a great deal to raise the profile of jazz in the UK because he's a fine musician AND an entertainer. Courtney's music is accessible, and audience participation is very much part of the show (call-and-response with his sax; jumping up and down three, then five, then seven times in time with the music). At the end of the evening he was walking through the crowd (thanks to his radio mic) like a hip version of the Pied Piper. Great fun.
