The 49th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival this September '06 was a record-smasher with the largest attendance ever.
There was music beginning Friday night and continuing from noon on over Saturday and Sunday, featuring an array of the world's greatest musicians, playing at five venues--the large outdoor Jimmy Lyons Stage, the smaller outdoor Garden stage, as well as indoors at Dizzy's Den, Bill Berry Stage and Starbuck's Jazz Gallery. In addition, all the Lyons Stage performances were televised in the Jazz Theater. This made for hard choices for fans who couldn't be in two places at the same time.
Along the walkways between jazz spots, there were numerous shops and food vendors offering barbecue ribs, chicken and all manner of food and drink. In other words, once you entered the grounds, you didn't have to leave.
Below are just of a few of the stars who entertained, along with big headliners, Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck, and many talented stars of the future.
