Bonington Theatre in Nottingham, UK on October 26, 2006
Regular pianist Zoe Rahman was unavailable for this gig, so her place was taken by Steve Melling, who was part of Clark Tracey's first quintet back in the 1980s (was it really that long ago?). As a result the band revisited some of that first quintet's material, in addition to playing music from the current repertoire. The band had impressed me at the Coventry Jazz Festival back in May and this gig confirmed how good they are. Both Mark Armstrong and Simon Allen have technique and imagination to spare, and bassist Peter Billington works seamlessly with Clark in the rhythm section. A very satisfying performance.
