Bonington Theatre in Nottingham, UK on January 25, 2007
The first gig of the 2007 season at the Bonington featured Empirical, a fine young band who both honour and extend the tradition of modern jazz. Their playing was a sharp as their sartorial sense, and they reminded me a great deal of a band I saw at the Brecon Jazz Festival in the early 1990s - the Roy Hargrove/Antonio Hart Quintet.
