After a highly successful collaboration at last year's Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the trio reconvened for a short UK tour and this was the final concert. It's always a pleasure to hear musicians who have such an empathy and obviously enjoy playing together, and the previous night's date at the Vortex in London was recorded with a view to a CD release. An added bonus was that the acoustics of the theatre were good enough to enable the band to play completely acoustically - even the best PA systems lose some of the instruments' timbre - so the rich sound of Siegel's tenor sax and bass clarinet, and the subtlety of Baron's drumming really came across.
