Geoff Gascoyne is probably best known these days as Jamie Cullum's bassist, but he has worked with many great artists such as Georgie Fame and Guy Barker, and (when he has the time!) leads this excellent quintet. The music is straight-ahead contemporary jazz, played with skill and conviction - Steve Kaldestad and Martin Shaw are first rate improvisers, and Tom Cawley in particular was impressive with some spiky solos.
