Bonington Theatre in Nottingham, UK on April 12, 2007
This was supposed to be the Nikki Iles Quartet, but regular saxophonist Iain Dixon was unavailable, so Nikki brought along not one replacement, but two! Stan Sulzmann has worked extensively with Nikki in the past, and can be relied upon to interpret the music with authority, style and a great tone. Dick Pearce seemed a little more tentative, being perhaps less familiar with the material. Aidan O'Donnell and Stephen Keogh are a good rhythm team (having appeared at the Bonington with a number of other artists). Nikki herself is one of the UK's foremost pianists, working with many great artists (including a long association with singer Tina May). The tunes were a mix of originals, standards and material from Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson.
