Claire Martin's latest CD is a tribute to Shirley Horn, and in this concert she presented the same material, with a stripped-down accompaniment of just guitar and bass. She possesses a rich, warm voice and tells a story when she sings, captivating the audience with numbers like "He Never Mentioned Love" (the title track of the new CD). Jim Mullen (one of my favourite guitarists, with a "voice" on the guitar as distinctive as Claire's) and Steve Watts provided a sympathetic and supportive backing.
