Featuring Snapshots at 51st Monterey Jazz Festival
Jazz Greats Hold Fort as Newcomers Rush in
There was jazz everywhere, Sept. !9-21, 2008, on the large outdoor Jimmy Lyons Stage and in four other smaller venues at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey, California. There were established greats, such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Kurt Elling.
Future stars were on hand, as well, incuding clarinetist Anat Cohen from Israel, vocalist Jamie Cullum from England who made a big hit here and dynamo drummer Antonio Sanchez with his group Migration.
Always at Monterey, young high school and college players get a chance with the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and in other contexts. Also musicians round up kids on the grounds, giving them lessons and a chance to play instruments.
