"PERFORMING FIRST WEDNESDAYS @ TWINS JAZZ!"
Stan Killian - tenor sax
Harry Appleman - piano
Eric Wheeler - bass
Eric Kennedy - drums
Based in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area, tenor saxophonist Stan Killian is currently dividing his time between two major projects. The Stan Killian Quartet performs original music drawing inspiration from the minds of Wayne Shorter, Woody Shaw, McCoy Tyner, and Joe Henderson. He also co-leads Com Você, an ensemble which interprets Brazilian and American modern jazz from bossa nova to MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) and beyond. Reviewers have described his playing as “virtuosic”, “muscular”, and “mellifluous.” Peter Westbrook from Jazz Review writes, “Killian is by no means another Coltrane clone. He has a voice of his own with an almost classical sonority at times.” http://www.stankillian.com

The Danielle Eva Quartet, jazz, blues, and bossa, featuring Danielle Eva, vocals, Allyn Johnson, piano, Lenny Robinson, drums, and Michael Bowie, bass.
Fusing groove, blues, swing, and bossa, jazz vocalist and songwriter Danielle Eva serenades in shades of blue-eyed soul with a compelling sincerity and a side of sass. She began her career in her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she developed her craft singing in jazz clubs and festivals, in college opera roles, and performing modern world gospel. She then spent several years in New York performing in top jazz and cabaret venues as well as festivals along the East Coast. She has been honored as a scholarship recipient of Jazz Aspen Snowmass and as a 3rd place winner of the 2007 Billie Holiday Vocal Competition. Her latest recording project, to be released in February, features drummer Lenny Robinson, pianist Federico Pena, bass player Gavin Fallow, and guitarists Lenny White and Chuck Underwood.

By age sixteen, he was performing at local venues where he met drummer Kenny Wollesen and bassist Anders Swanson, as well as 2004 Grammy nominated saxophonist Donny McCaslin. In 1981, Kenny and his fellow Santa Cruz musicians were invited to open up for Carmen McRae and Freddie Hubbard at the Mount Tamalpais jazz festival. After high school, Kenny attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his final year in 1986, he received the call to audition for Ray Charles. He toured worldwide with Ray Charles as his guitarist for over ten years.

ALYSE BLACK AND HER BAND
8:00PM
Twins Jazz Address: 1344 U Street, NW, 2nd Floor Washington DC 20009 U.S.
About the Venue: This place is a true homegrown jazz lounge. Owned and operated by real life Ethiopian twin sisters, Kelly and Maze Tesfaye, Twins Jazz is a Washington, DC treasure. Avant-garde artists, minor legends and the best of the local scene regularly take the cramped stage at Twins Jazz, one rickety flight of steps above U Street. At a club with a two-drink minimum per set and the action mostly on stage, nobody's really looking for the waitstaff to ply them with food and drinks. Committed listeners dine on the Ethiopian cuisine served here, but the main focus is the music. The space is intimate, creating a strong connection between audience and performers. The walls have paintings by local artists and photographs of jazz musicians, (many by Joseph Beasley, professional photographer and Twins soundman) and the bar in back is built within a cave-like molding, embedded with colored ceramic tiles. The back bar is also a good place to sit and listen to the music, especially if you're there by yourself. Twins is also home to jam sessions every Sunday evening, when locals display their chops on standard material as supportive patrons nurse their drinks.
