And as an original member of celebrated composer Guillermo Klein's lauded, pioneering ensemble weekly during the inception of the since so influential new traditional Jazz venue Smalls. Alongside some of the new Jazz generations most influential players. Internationally acclaimed guitar virtuoso and composer Sten Hostfalt has spent the past decade, producing and releasing 4 albums as a leader. And as a New York City based, internationally active bandleader of various original lineups from solo to quartet. Appearing live on a regular, weekly basis. Encompassing styles from Traditional, Mainstream and Contemporary Jazz, to Third Stream, Modern, Avantgarde and Electronica. Always refering to and including his microtonal work. That has been called Groundbreaking by Jazz Review, 'Virtuosic' by Joe Maneri, 'Inimitable' by Paper Magazine and 'Impressive, Intense' by Time Out NY. And enthusiastically featured in leading press worldwide including Guitar Player Magazine, All About Jazz, Jazz Now, Cadence Magazine, Altrisuoni (Italy), BadAlchemy (Germany), TomaJazz (Spain), Jazz Views ( U.K.). Recently shared NYC events has ventured further stylistically and included downtown VIP's Tim Berne and Daniel Carter. DJ Popstar MOBY and Hip-Hop great Keith Murray (DEF SQUAD). While the STEN HOSTFALT QUARTET still remains focused on uniquely interpreting, building on and expanding on original composed material in the traditional Jazz song format. With former members including electric bass guitar phenom Matthew Garrison and multi instrumentalist Takuya Nakamura. As heard on the '02 Paul Bley initiated CD 'Eternity Check' and on '08's QUARTET. And guests tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake and drummer Cyril Atef.
