In this film, Jeremy Cohen is joined on stage at San Francisco's historic Herbst Theatre by members of his ViolinJazz Quartet (Larry Dunlap on piano, Dix Bruce on guitar and Jim Kerwin on bass) and musical guests to celebrate Venuti’s 100th birthday.

 

This film is a dialogue between past and present -- a multimedia live concert combining historical film footage and slides with live music featuring violin virtuoso, composer, and arranger Jeremy Cohen in a celebration of Joe Venuti’s unique talent and contribution to American jazz violin. 

 

By inviting the audience into Venuti’s living room and  performing his music live onstage, this film not only entertains but imparts a deeper understanding and appreciation of Joe Venuti himself.

Biography:

In a world where the deepest musical roots are often taken for granted, Jeremy Cohen carries on the legacy of jazz violin with a deep knowledge of, and respect for the past. His tribute to Joe Venuti, captured here on film, is neither sentimental nor contrived. Rather, he combines the past with the present in a way that draws the audience into the story.

 

Jeremy Cohen is currently Resident Artist and String Coordinator at the Henry Mancini Institute at UCLA and Guest Artist in Residence at Mills College.  He is also on the faculty of the Jazz School in Berkeley, California, and is a former faculty member of the Stanford Jazz Workshop.  His eclectic style reflects his training with Itzhak Perlman and his admiration for violinists ranging from Fritz Kreisler to Joe Venuti.   

 

He performs as soloist with symphony orchestras around the country, and concertizes regularly with his ViolinJazz Quartet and the award-winning Quartet San Francisco.  In addition to his own concerts and recordings, Cohen has worked extensively on motion picture and TV soundtracks,  He has also performed, toured, and/or recorded with a wide variety of artists.
